SUMMARY:Clean Shipping Financing Workshop in Tallinn
DESCRIPTION:The maritime sector needs to undertake huge investments in new infrastructure\, vessels and technologies in order to comply with future environmental regulations on SOx\, NOx and Green House Gases. However there are many competing solutions and they are often very costly. CSHIPP’s workshop Clean Shipping Financing – Challenges and Best Practices addresses the present and future needs for clean shipping technologies as well as the best practices in clean shipping financing for private companies. \nThe workshop will cover the following topics: \n\nState of play and future needs for new clean shipping technologies\nThe role of ECA in protecting the environment\nData on the best decarbonisation and zero emission technologies for ships in the BSR. Any information on hydrogen\, fuel cell\, etc.\nBest Practices in clean shipping financing for private companies for public or private bodies.\nIllustrations with practical cases will be used for the stakeholders to assess how EU supports companies to win the challenge of clean shipping.\nEnhancing business potential through enterprises in EU-funded projects.\n\nThe workshop is free of charge and open for all those interested in the topic. However\, registration is required and can be done via this link. \nThe agenda of the workshop can be downloaded HERE. \nWe look forward to seeing you in Tallinn!

SUMMARY:The maritime aspects of climate change
DESCRIPTION:The sixth thematic meeting of the Interact Knowledge of the Seas network focuses on the maritime aspects of climate change. The event is organised in Piraeus\, Greece on 26-27 November 2019. \nThe first day of the event provides an opportunity to learn from and exchange with policy and strategic actors\, thematic experts\, EU funding programmes and cooperation projects how to tackle climate change. Moreover\, it enables participants to discuss how to best join forces in tackling climate change. The second day is devoted to the Knowledge of the seas network itself\, its ongoing and future activities – naturally reflecting on and taking into account the discussions from the first day. The target group of this event are on the one hand Interreg Programmes with a maritime character or component\, and especially Joint Secretariat staff members dealing with maritime project generation\, assessment\, monitoring and support. At the same time\, the meeting will provide a broader approach also inviting thematic experts and stakeholders as well as project representatives to ensure a holistic view to the topic of the maritime aspects of climate change. \nCSHIPP has been invited to take part in the session Joining forces – The cross-project and cross-programme approach which is organised on Tuesday\, 26 November at 14.30-16.30. The objective of the session is to go beyond Interreg borders\, to learn more about other funding sources tackling climate change and to\nlook for possible synergies also between Interreg and other projects. \nFor more information\, visit: http://www.interact-eu.net/#o=events/maritime-aspects-climate-change and download the agenda here.

SUMMARY:Seminar: Navigating towards 2030. How to take the digital route to environmentally and economically sustainable maritime industry?
DESCRIPTION:In line with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development\, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has set several objectives for the maritime industry in terms of the environmental impacts of shipping. Carbon intensity of international shipping needs to decline\, with reductions of CO2 emissions per transport work by at least 40% by 2030\, towards 70% by 2050\, compared to 2008. Furthermore\, the total annual green house gas (GHG) emissions from international shipping are to be reduced by at least 50% by 2050 compared to 2008 whilst pursuing efforts towards phasing them out entirely. \nDigitalisation is among the most important technological enablers for maritime industry’s progress towards decarbonisation and eco-efficiency. However\, the disruptive character of digitalisation means that there are many issues to consider and challenges to overcome before the benefits in better operational efficiency\, reduced costs and improved environmental performance can be reaped. In many cases\, cross-sectoral collaboration and pooling of knowledge and resources between actors from different industries and traditions are needed to find and develop digital solutions that support eco-efficiency. In addition to the development of solutions\, transnational networks are often critical to support the diffusion of digital technologies and eco-efficiency solutions beyond national borders. \nECOPRODIGI’s latest policy event invites stakeholders and target groups from different backgrounds together to discuss the future of digital and eco-efficient maritime industry. The focus of the event is on the role of cross-sectoral collaboration\, transnational networks\, public organisations and policies in supporting digital and sustainable development. Highlights of the seminar include: \n\nKeynote: How can digital solutions and transnational networks help deliver on the IMO’s GHG goals? by Dr. Lau Øfjord Blaxekjær (Special Adviser\, Blue Growth and Maritime Policy\, Danish Maritime Authority)\nKeynote by Dr. Christopher Saarnak (Senior Adviser\, Business Intelligence and Development\, Danish Maritime Authority)\nPanel discussion: Navigating towards 2030. How to take the digital route to environmentally and economically sustainable maritime industry? moderated by Dr. René Taudal Poulsen (Associate Professor\, Copenhagen Business School – Department of Strategy and Innovation)\nPresentation of the preliminary results and collaboration examples in ECOPRODIGI’s  three industry cases: Digital Performance Monitoring\, Optimising Cargo Stowage & Optimising Shipyard Processes\n\nA more detailed agenda for the seminar can be downloaded HERE. Please note that some changes to the agenda are still possible. \nFor more information and registration\, please visit ECOPRODIGI’s website. \nThe seminar is organised at Aalborg University Copehagen premises (AAU Sydhavn\, A. C\, Meyers Vænge 15\, 2450 København). In case you have any questions about the seminar\, please contact Emilia Tuominen: emilia.tuominen@centrumbalticum.org
